Phu Quoc from India (2026–27): Visa, Vegetarian Food & Where to Stay

RoamDecide Editorial Team · Last fact-checked: 20 October 2026 · Independent planning research; no firsthand airline, hotel or restaurant testing is claimed.

Quick verdict: Phu Quoc is a compelling four- or five-day beach holiday from India, especially with the planned Ahmedabad nonstop route. Make three decisions before paying: your visa route, reliable meals for your dietary requirements, and the hotel area that suits your activities. An island-only visa exemption does not automatically cover mainland Vietnam.

1. Flights from Ahmedabad to Phu Quoc: what is announced?

Sun PhuQuoc Airways has announced a nonstop Phu Quoc–Ahmedabad service scheduled to start on 2 December 2026, with approximately five flights per week. The airline lists Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday operations; confirm which dates apply to each direction before fixing your trip length. Your return day must be an operating day.

The announced Ahmedabad–Phu Quoc service is scheduled to arrive at approximately 07:15 Phu Quoc local time, after an overnight departure from Ahmedabad. The announced Phu Quoc-to-Ahmedabad departure is 19:35 local time. These are announced timings, not confirmed future operational performance: verify the live booking itinerary before making non-refundable plans.

Limited booking offer (check expiry): The airline advertises 20% off eligible base fares with code AMDPQC for bookings made 16 October–13 November 2026, for eligible travel through 3 June 2027, booked on the airline’s website or mobile app. The discount applies to base fare, not necessarily taxes and fees. This offer expires after 13 November 2026; check the current offer page before relying on it.

The airline states that its onboard menu excludes beef and pork, with chicken, fish, vegetarian dishes and Halal meals on request. Travellers requiring vegetarian, Jain-specific or Halal meals should contact the airline before departure and confirm what can actually be supplied.

Should you choose a Sun Group attraction package?

The airline also promotes optional Phu Quoc-linked benefits, which may include Hon Thom cable car access, WOW Pass privileges or discounts at Sun Group businesses. Check eligibility, expiry, redemption and inclusions for your exact ticket. These benefits belong to one commercial ecosystem; compare the final cost with other hotels and attraction choices instead of allowing a promotional ticket to determine your whole holiday.

2. Visa decision: Phu Quoc island exemption or Vietnam e-visa?

Eligible foreign visitors, including Indian passport holders, may use Phu Quoc’s island-specific visa exemption for stays up to 30 days, subject to entry conditions. It is not general visa-free permission to travel across Vietnam. Transit arrangements, passport rules and the point where you pass immigration can change the answer.

Your itineraryPractical visa decision
Fly internationally directly into Phu Quoc; remain on islandCheck eligibility for the island-specific 30-day exemption.
International connection with onward travel to Phu QuocVerify immigration, baggage and transit arrangements with the carrier and authorities.
Enter via Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi and travel domestically onwardArrange suitable Vietnam entry permission unless another exemption covers your actual entry.
Phu Quoc plus mainland Vietnam, or multiple entriesConsider the appropriate single- or multiple-entry Vietnam e-visa before departure.

Indian passport holders can apply for Vietnam’s e-visa using the official Immigration Department portal. Vietnam e-visas can be valid for up to 90 days and may be single-entry (USD 25) or multiple-entry (USD 50). Application fees are generally not refunded on refusal. Eligibility, approval and permitted stay depend on the actual visa issued. For exemptions, cross-check the Vietnam Ministry of Foreign Affairs information.

Do not assume: A flight connection, separate ticket or stop on the mainland qualifies for island-only visa-free travel. Confirm your complete route before buying non-refundable tickets.

3. Where should Indian travellers stay in Phu Quoc?

Choose the easiest place to eat, not just the prettiest beach photograph. A remotely located resort can be excellent for a relaxing holiday, but inconvenient if your family requires reliably prepared Jain, vegetarian or Halal meals outside the property.

AreaFood and itinerary fit
Duong Dong / central Long BeachUseful starting point for independent restaurants and flexible trips; check exact walking distances.
Sunset Town / An ThoiConvenient for southern attractions and Hon Thom; preconfirm suitable meal options near your hotel.
Ong Lang / quieter resortsGood for slow travel if hotel dining and return transfers are arranged.
Northern resort areasAppealing for resort-focused families; do not assume the nearest Indian restaurant is close.

First-time visitors who prefer independent restaurants can start by comparing Duong Dong and central Long Beach. For a southern-attractions-focused holiday, An Thoi may reduce travel time. If you follow strict Jain rules, obtain written kitchen confirmation before booking a non-refundable room.

4. Vegetarian, Jain, vegan and Halal food: what to check

Indian visitors do not all follow the same diet. Vegetarian, vegan, Jain and Halal are different requirements, not interchangeable labels. A vegetarian logo does not guarantee Jain-compliant ingredients or separate equipment; no pork on a menu does not prove Halal certification.

Vietnamese Buddhist vegetarian kitchens: useful for some, not automatically Jain

Look for quán chay or cơm chay, which identify Vietnamese vegetarian dining. Some Buddhist vegetarian kitchens avoid ngũ vị tân, a group of pungent vegetables often including onion, garlic and chives. That can make these kitchens worth investigating if you avoid onion and garlic. But many vegetarian dishes still contain potatoes, carrots, radishes or other root vegetables, and modern vegetarian restaurants may use onion or garlic. Always ask about the exact dish and cooking process.

For precise Vietnamese-language dietary request cards and verified restaurant leads, see Pure Vegetarian & Jain Food in Phu Quoc. This dedicated food guide covers mushrooms, root vegetables, sauces and separate kitchen equipment.

Do not treat vegetarian labels as Jain or Halal certification. Confirm exact ingredients and kitchen practices directly.

5. A realistic four-day itinerary around early-morning arrival

Day 1: Early arrival, breakfast and rest

With a scheduled arrival near 07:15, you may reach your hotel hours before standard check-in, commonly around 14:00. Ask in advance about early check-in, luggage storage or day-use options. Have breakfast, rest or enjoy a nearby beach rather than reserving a fixed-time boat tour. If guaranteed morning room access is essential, compare paying for the previous night against an available early-access option. See Getting Around Phu Quoc for airport transfers and transport decisions.

Day 2: Hon Thom and southern attractions

Consider Hon Thom cable car and selected activities near An Thoi, checking actual operating hours, weather, attraction inclusions and any qualifying airline benefit. For strict diets, confirm lunch plans in advance. Leave sufficient time for queues and rest rather than attempting every attraction in one day. To compare the actual attraction types and tickets, read Hon Thom Cable Car vs Island-Hopping.

Day 3: Beach day or flexible island activity

Choose a beach-focused day, short local outings or a boat excursion only when daily sea conditions and operator safety arrangements allow. Families often benefit from a slower day more than another cross-island journey. Check evening meal options and transport back to your accommodation.

Day 4: Departure without a rushed excursion

The announced 19:35 departure to Ahmedabad may allow a relaxed final day, but arrange checkout, luggage storage and sufficient airport time. Check that your chosen departure date is an operating day. For a three-day trip, remove optional sightseeing; for five days, consider adding a rest day.

6. When to go: December to March

For many beach-focused travellers, December to March falls within Phu Quoc’s generally drier seasonal window, although sunshine, wave conditions and rainfall cannot be guaranteed. Travelling in wetter months may mean more flexible outdoor plans. See our Best Time to Visit Phu Quoc comparison for monthly weather patterns and beach considerations.

7. Money, UPI and staying connected

Vietnam’s currency is the Vietnamese dong (VND). Carry some local cash for smaller purchases and an internationally enabled bank card; compare ATM and foreign-transaction fees. Card acceptance differs by business.

Do not depend on UPI at the point of sale. The Reserve Bank of India and the State Bank of Vietnam signed a digital-payments cooperation MoU on 5 May 2026 (reported by India’s Press Information Bureau on 29 May). The agreement explores cross-border QR connectivity but does not establish widespread operational UPI acceptance at Phu Quoc merchants. Confirm any payment support with your bank and the seller. Read the official announcement.

For maps, messaging and transport, compare a Vietnam eSIM or local SIM. Check device compatibility, carrier lock, network coverage and data validity before purchase.

8. Five things to confirm before paying

  1. Visa: Confirm the exact immigration route, including any mainland stops.
  2. Flights: Check live times and operating days in both directions.
  3. Food: Obtain explicit confirmation for Jain, vegetarian, vegan or Halal needs.
  4. Hotel: Choose an area based on meals, transfers and the attractions you will actually visit.
  5. Full cost: Compare airfare, baggage, visa, meals, transfers, early room access and attractions, not headline prices alone.

Frequently asked questions

Is Phu Quoc visa-free for Indian tourists?

Eligible Indian passport holders may qualify for the island-specific visa exemption for up to 30 days. This does not automatically cover travel to mainland Vietnam. Confirm your route and entry conditions.

Are vegetarian and Jain meals available in Phu Quoc?

Vegetarian and Indian dining options exist, but strict Jain meals need advance ingredient and preparation confirmation. Do not assume all Vietnamese vegetarian restaurants avoid root vegetables, onion or garlic.

Where should Indian families stay in Phu Quoc?

Duong Dong and central Long Beach are useful starting areas if independent dining is a priority. An Thoi and Sunset Town can suit families focused on southern attractions if suitable meals are confirmed.

Can Indian travellers use UPI in Phu Quoc?

Do not assume UPI works at local merchants. Carry VND and an internationally enabled card, and verify any cross-border payment support directly.

Evening activities: For night markets and fireworks, check our Phu Quoc at Night guide. The historic Bach Dang night market faced relocation in 2026; do not depend on old addresses.

Final verdict

Phu Quoc can be an excellent short island holiday from India, especially if beach relaxation is the main objective. The strongest plan is not the busiest one: arrange visa eligibility and dependable meals first, stay in the right area, and give yourself an easy start after the overnight flight.
