Fact-checked October 21, 2026. Vietnam’s airport arrangements are changing. For travel during 2026–27, always verify your airport code, terminal and pickup instructions before paying for a transfer.
Old airport transfer guides can be misleading: Hanoi changed its T2 ride-hailing arrangements in August 2026; Tan Son Nhat has three terminals; and the planned rollout of Long Thanh could change where Ho Chi Minh City international flights land.
Start here: which airport is on your ticket?
| Code | Airport | Arrival detail |
|---|---|---|
| HAN | Noi Bai, Hanoi | T2 international; T1 domestic; app rides toward P1 |
| SGN | Tan Son Nhat, Ho Chi Minh City | International T2; domestic T1/T3, check airline |
| LTH | Long Thanh, Dong Nai | New airport; check airline announcements and phased operations |
| DAD | Da Nang | T1 domestic; T2 international |
| PQC | Phu Quoc | Island arrival, separate from Ho Chi Minh City |
Never book an SGN pickup for an LTH arrival.
Your 60-second arrivals checklist
- Verify your airport code and terminal on your booking.
- Activate your SIM/eSIM or use official airport Wi-Fi.
- Keep your hotel address and offline map ready.
- Compare app ride, authorized taxi, booked transfer or bus.
- Follow official pickup signs.
- Match the plate and driver to an app booking.
- Check fare method and any parking or toll fee.
Transport decision table
| Option | Good for | Verify |
|---|---|---|
| Grab / Xanh SM | Travelers with internet | Pickup zone, plate, fare and payment selection |
| Authorized taxi | Travelers avoiding app setup | Official queue, fare/meter and surcharges |
| Pre-booked / hotel transfer | Families, groups, late flights | Flight delays, meeting point, vehicle size, full charges |
| Airport bus | Budget travelers | Route, last service, final journey to hotel |
Ho Chi Minh City: SGN or Long Thanh (LTH)?
Long Thanh is a planned new gateway roughly 40 km east of central Ho Chi Minh City. As of this article’s October 2026 verification date, commercial opening was targeted for December 2026. An announced transition framework sets three stages, but operating dates and actual flights depend on readiness and airline confirmation.

| Proposed phase | Announced route allocation |
|---|---|
| 1 Dec 2026–27 Mar 2027 | Airlines encouraged to operate international services at LTH, according to readiness. |
| 28 Mar–29 Oct 2027 | Long-haul international flights planned for LTH. |
| From 30 Oct 2027 | Most international flights planned to use LTH; scheduled international routes under 1,000 km operated by Vietnamese airlines planned to remain at SGN, with other published exceptions. |

For LTH transfers: Confirm the code with your airline; ask your hotel or verified provider for the actual LTH pickup location, vehicle fare, tolls, waiting rules and trip time. This article does not present unverified LTH bus schedules, taxi fares or app pickup points as facts.
Tan Son Nhat (SGN)

T2 serves international flights allocated to SGN. Domestic flights may use T1 or T3; verify your airline’s terminal. T3 opened to passengers in April 2025. Official Civil Aviation Authority guidance published in 2025 lists the landside interterminal shuttle at approximately 04:30–00:30 every 15–20 minutes (information rechecked October 21, 2026; not a live timetable). Check signs and current operator notices before relying on it. A verified app ride, authorized taxi or confirmed private transfer may suit different luggage and budget needs.
Hanoi: Noi Bai (HAN)

International arrivals use T2; T1 serves domestic flights. Under the August 3, 2026 CAA traffic plan, Grab and Xanh SM pickup vehicles are directed toward car park P1 at T2. The Level 1 arrivals curb includes arrangements for registered greeters and authorized airport taxis. Follow current airport and app signs, not unsolicited drivers.
Bus 86 links Noi Bai and Hanoi Railway Station. An airport page has listed VND 50,000 per trip (published reference rechecked October 21, 2026, not a guaranteed live fare). Verify actual timetable and price before boarding. Check the airport’s interterminal shuttle page for current T1–T2 shuttle details. Compare full door-to-door routes in our Hanoi Airport to City Center guide.
Da Nang (DAD)

T1 serves domestic passengers, T2 international passengers. The airport’s published transportation page indicates a taxi price board around pillar 2 and a bus pickup at pillar 7 of T2, with some route-specific fare and timetable examples. These are historical published references, not verified current services: the page includes different times and prices for different routes, and its operational details may be outdated. Confirm the operating bus route, pickup point, latest fare and final departure at the airport information desk or with the current operator before relying on a bus transfer. Do not rely on older reports of routes 6, 12 or a Hai Van Hoi An bus as confirmed current options.
When requesting app pickup, specify T1 or T2. If continuing to Hoi An, compare total door-to-door costs and confirm the exact hotel drop-off.
Seven signs of an unofficial airport driver
- Someone claims to be your driver without an app match.
- A stranger offers to replace your booked driver.
- The vehicle plate differs from your booking.
- You’re pressured to cancel and pay privately.
- Prices and airport fees cannot be explained.
- A fare is shown on an unfamiliar app on another phone.
- You are rushed away from a staffed pickup area.
If unsure, stay in a public, staffed area and use official support. Not every toll or airport fee is a scam, but you should understand any extra charge.
Late-night arrivals, no internet, and payment problems
Arriving late? Check the last bus, hotel’s late-check-in policy and any booked driver’s delay policy. No data? Try airport Wi-Fi, an information desk and your saved offline hotel address; choose an authorized taxi if necessary. Payment: Grab or Xanh SM may offer cash and eligible in-app payment options depending on account and service. Test whether your foreign card works before flying and keep a backup. Never give account passwords or banking PINs to unsolicited helpers.
Unexpected driver charges? Ask what the fare covers, compare the booking, seek a receipt and report disputes through official provider channels. Prioritize personal safety over arguing in a moving vehicle.
Flying directly to Phu Quoc (PQC)?
PQC is a separate island arrival airport. If your flight goes directly there, you do not need a Ho Chi Minh City airport pickup. For island transport and hotel transfers, see our Getting Around Phu Quoc guide.
Frequently asked questions
Is Grab or Xanh SM available at Vietnam’s airports?
Provider availability and pickup rights vary by airport, terminal and time. Check the actual app and airport signs.
Where do Grab and Xanh SM drivers meet at Noi Bai T2?
The August 2026 traffic arrangement directs app-car pickups toward car park P1; follow current official signs and booking instructions.
How do I know whether I will arrive at SGN or LTH in 2027?
Check the airport code on your confirmed airline booking, not simply the destination city name.
Can I pay by foreign credit card?
Do not assume all apps or taxis accept your card. Test supported in-app methods and arrange a fallback.
Is the airport bus always best?
Not necessarily. Include waiting time, operating hours, luggage and your last connection to the hotel.
Continuing beyond Hanoi? If your next stop is Ha Long Bay, compare cruise shuttle, shared limousine and private car options in our Hanoi to Ha Long Bay transport guide. Check your confirmed cruise departure port before booking.
Final recommendation
Confirm your airport. Confirm your terminal. Confirm your ride. Knowing these three things can make your first hour in Vietnam much simpler.
